Here is a glorious story of Race overcoming Toxic Ignorance to make you Smile. When a by-election takes place, the principal event is usually straightforward: a candidate wins and becomes the new Member of Parliament.
In Holborn and St Pancras, that winner was Sagal Abdi-Wali. According to the BBC's own report, she arrived in Britain as a child refugee from Somalia, grew up in Camden, became a councillor, then council leader, and has now succeeded Sir Keir Starmer as MP.
That is not merely a routine election result. It is a remarkable political and personal story.
Yet BBC's Chris Mason's article chose a different focus entirely for reasons unknown.
Readers were told from the opening lines that the winner was not the main story. Instead, the article concentrated on the difficulties facing Zack Polanski, who did not win the election. The headline itself was devoted to his leadership challenges rather than the victorious candidate.
Of course commercial journalists are entitled to decide what they - or their multi billionaire owners - consider to be more important.
Toxic Social Media elements had their vile voices heard loud and clear - and lost!
But readers, listeners and watchers of all the BBC's multiple political platforms are equally entitled to expect good old fashioned non-biased reporting - in the publics interests?.
The by-election produced a winner. The successful candidate secured the seat. The electorate chose a new MP. Those are the central facts of the event.
*HATE AND ANGER GIVES WAY TO SMILES*
By contrast, disputes within a losing party, however politically interesting, are secondary consequences of the election rather than the election itself. For many it's who cares, and for some it's bad news.
Reasonable people can reach different conclusions about what matters most. But it is entirely legitimate to question an editorial judgement which places the problems of a defeated political figure above the achievement of the person actually elected.
For many readers, the most significant story emerging from Holborn and St Pancras was not who lost.
It was who won, and did it in such style!
