Scotland, UK - Vertical Blind FAQ’s discussed by Select Blinds

Find out everything you need to know about Vertical Blinds and if they are the window or door covering for your home or business in our Vertical Blind FAQ’s. You can see our full range of Blinds and services here.

What are Vertical Blinds?

Vertical blinds have vertical lengths of fabric called vanes or slats that are clipped into a sliding track at the top of your window recess and operated with a wand or chain. The slats can be tilted or fully opened or closed for light and privacy. When a vertical blind is fully open the slats hang over each other at either or both ends of your window recess leaving your window fully exposed and the natural light entering your room.

How do Vertical Blinds work?

Vertical blinds have a sliding mechanism at the top which each vane/slat is attached to and this allows for them to be opened, closed and tilted, you can have a door or window open or closed when they are in any position. They can be fitted inside or outside of a window recess although they work better if fitted inside as it allows the vanes/slats to be tilted. They are opened and closed by a child-safe pulley mechanism which can be fitted to either side of the blind and the wand allows you to tilt the vanes/slats to the angle you want.

How do Vertical Blinds open and close?

Vertical blinds can be opened and closed to either side using a chain mechanism and they can also be made to open from the centre and leaving the vanes/slats on each side of the window or door frame and these are known as split stack vertical blinds. A wand or chain which can be fitted to either side of the blind and is used to tilt the vanes/slats to the position you want them in, giving you full or partial privacy or allowing you to block out the suns glare without having them fully closed. The vanes/slats need to be open when you retract the blind to allow a full view from your window or door.

###

What material do Vertical Blinds come in?

Vertical blinds are made with a synthetic polyester fabric which is durable, doesn’t fade and is easy to clean. Vertical blinds can be made in blackout material if you want it, although be aware the slats do allow some light to enter a room.

Can I have patterned Vertical Blinds?

Vertical blinds come in a huge range of colours and patterns, they can be light subtle tones to complement your room, darker colours to be a contrast or bright colours and patterns to really stand out.

What size can Vertical Blinds be?

Vertical blinds are so lightweight they are a great option for covering wide and tall windows or patio doors and they are still really easy to open and close.

Can Vertical Blinds be cut to size?

It isn’t advisable to cut vertical blinds to size as the vane/slat material will fray and it is really difficult to cut each vane/slat to the exact same size. A good and reputable blind company will come out to take your exact measurements, provide you with a quote and will make your vertical blinds to your bespoke window or door size. They will also offer a free fitting service which means you can sit back and relax whilst your new blinds are fitted.
