Jonathan Harmsworth, the 4th Viscount Rothermere and owner of the Daily Mail (DMGT), has publicly supported the Conservative Party, specifically acting as a vocal supporter of David Cameron. Despite the Daily Mail's generally right-wing, pro-Conservative stance, Rothermere has claimed under oath that he does not interfere with the editorial policies of his papers. Following the 2019 acquisition, the i was operated separately under DMG Media to ensure editorial independence, with a focus on continuing its non-partisan, quality journalism.
Up until that point the i was generally noted for its open and obvious neutrality, amongst a wealth of other daily newspapers in the UK which were, and still are not.
GB2GB Founder states "I was an avid reader of what I regarded as the best factual newspaper by far up until that point, and a delight to read. Unfortunately, the change in the content dramatically changed to being extremely 'un-neutral' when the i was bought by the same group and now competes with its now sister newspaper - the Daily Mail.
I now find that almost all political commentary leans heavily against the new government, initially just anti-labour, but which now appears to be quite supportive of the same party the Daily Mail traditionally supported - the Conservative Party - and now the Reform "
It also changed its tack by being forced to 'ride 2 horses' by being 'soft' on the Reform Party - both now opposing the Labour Party.
This can in fact be linked to politicians of certain 'favoured' opposition parties having policies or more vague 'intensions' that are more related to the division as seen in the politics of the USA at the moment.
THE ART OF CREATIVE MEDIA:
The following parts of an article printed today shows how the i is 'creative about people who allegedly 'made' comments, with the sole aim to give the story 'gravitas' .
