Get to know the SAS Instructor Rade Savic – an aviation professional with over 35 years of working experience.

He is an SMS & QMS Specialist with the capability to organise and register EASA Part 147 training for A and B mechanics. Rade is also skilled in Human Factors in Maintenance Environment, FTS and EWIS & more.

Rade is a graduate of the University of Belgrade, Serbia. His career started in 1985 in JAT Airways – Engineering & Maintenance Division as a Leader System engineer. Over the years, the instructor has gained experience in Risk and Safety management, MRO Part 145, Aircraft System Engineering, PART OPS, Part M, CAMO, Quality Management System & Auditing, Safety Management System, Part 21, Aviation Training, and more.

We asked Rade a few questions about his experience in working with Sofema

1. Initially, what inspired you to start a career in aviation?

As a boy’s dream, I decided during studying in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering to finish in the department of Aerocosmotehnics (basically aircraft design). After university, I had the chance to work in Aircraft Maintenance, JAT technical department, Engineering of the aircraft system office. A whole new world of airplanes such as type: DC9-30, B-727-200, B-707, DC10-30, B737-300. You are there in Base maintenance, directly in contact with those amazing aircraft. I started to have direct communication with Douglas and Boeing engineers and designers. Working directly on airplanes, implementing new procedures in the D checks, developing existing processes makes me happy. Also working in many shops (structure, composite, oxygen, pneumatic, fire protection, etc.) together with colleagues to solving the problems, opened my new view on aviation. All these jobs were a completely new experience for me. The company organized training in the JAT Training facility (DC-10 and B 707, for 6 months, training abroad in Hamilton Standard). That was my dream and inspired me to go even further.

2. What motivates you as an aviation instructor and what is the best part about being a Sofema trainer?

The first training in conjunction with the EASA rules was with Sofema. The next course was in 2012 in Dubai. The company grow and increase the subjects and different area of training rules in aviation. I see that many young technicians, mechanics, engineers, and managers that try to increase their own knowledge and learn something more. It reminded me of when I start to learn and have experienced colleagues, domestic and abroad, who gave us knowledge derived from experience. But that was only case by case until Sofema made an order and was the first company that organized planning and schedule training. I asked myself if it ok to keep to myself all that huge different types of knowledge (base and line maintenance) MCC, PCC, shops and overhauls, Quality Auditing, Design, training HF, ETOPS, FTS, etc.) and experience? The answer was No, because I can share that knowledge with Sofema.
