USA Daily Times has started a new series, we will be looking at albums that were not “Greatest Hits” albums by design, but quickly got recognized as such over time. These are albums that are made up predominately of songs that would dominate the record rankings of that year and the majority of the songs on these albums would be Top 40 hits. There may be some exceptions when songs on albums later got a second life and found itself on later “best of” anthologies. Rumors was as famous for its strife as its incredible sound. “Rumours is the eleventh studio album by English-American rock band Fleetwood Mac, released on 4 February 1977 by Warner Bros. Records. Largely recorded in California in 1976, it was produced by the band with Ken Caillat and Richard Dashut. The band wanted to expand on the commercial success of their eponymous 1975 album, but struggled with relationship breakups before recording started. The Rumours studio sessions were marked by hedonistic behaviour and interpersonal strife among band members, which shaped the album’s lyrics.” It not only “shaped” the lyrics, but led to it becoming an iconic album respected to this day. Rumors shook the rock world and it became next to impossible to turn on your Top 40 station on in the late 70s and not hear a song from that album.
