New York. Get ready to join 1.5 million individuals across the US to participate in the Nation’s Sleep Out December 7 for several hours to stand in solidarity with displaced families and individuals to raise awareness and fund raise to assist local charities. Many are attending public events in selected cities, and thousands registered to host private small groups of 5 or more at home to support the initiative. The NSO organization is comprised of several notable business leaders, nonprofits, clergy, educators, and students that created several platforms to broaden the impact to bring solutions to hurting people.
Janice Hollis, a film producer and media executive as well as one of the national organizers along with Robert (Bob) Ellis: noted former entertainment business manager for Ronnie Woods of the “STONES”, CHAKA KAHN, DIANA ROSS (whom he also married and is father to their daughter, sitcom legend and business woman Tracee Ellis Ross), reached out to DECA Apex teacher Rodney Obaigbena, who extended opportunity to his senior leadership class to share their valuable insight on the national program.
Mr. O, (what he is affectionately called) indicated the youth were elated to share some of their leadership skills to offer advice to help developers move the project forward to incorporate more youth participation across the nation. The Apex class was engaged in conversation to lead the 1 Billion Beams of Light hashtag #1BilBOL social media campaign to send inspirational tweets to encourage peers leading up to the December nationwide event, and send video clips of their engagement to be considered for inclusion in the documentary “Faceless” which is already in production with the Hollis Media Group and will be released after the event.
Ellis said he was most impressed with the students positive engagement and energy and he looks forward to having more insightful young leaders like the Deca Apex class involved in 2020.
The Nation’s Sleep Out will continue its program annually though many groups such as the Big Sleep Out in Europe will closed operation this December. Whereas, NSO (The Nation’s Sleep Out) has expanded its reach in the United States to ensure viable social organizations such as mental health wellness, employment readiness and training centers, and other critical services are more visible with campaigns to assist the homeless populace.
“We don’t want you to miss this great opportunity to stand up and be counted with the nation: we are wearing solidarity wristbands, and T-shirts the entire day to create a worldwide vision of support. Which by the way, is a wonderful opportunity to participate as a family outing and to teach your kids the power of being a part of something bigger than one’s self and to show compassion." Said Hollis.
The “FACELESS” WE SEE YOU wristbands can be purchased online for a small donation for individuals or groups.
Teachers you can use this platform to engage students about bullying and to inspire awareness: some students may be homeless and without the comfort so many are fortunate enough to enjoy and can help students process and rethink how they engage with their peers.
